LIFE Expands to Serve Perry County Residents

SpiriTrust Lutheran LIFE has expanded its service area to include Perry County. LIFE makes it possible for adults age 55 and older to live safely in their homes and communities with dignity and independence, for as long as possible. Coordinated by a team that includes our physician, nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals, LIFE provides access to the full range of preventative, primary, acute and long-term care services.

Known nationally as PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly), in Pennsylvania these programs are called LIFE (Living Independence For the Elderly). SpiriTrust Lutheran LIFE’s program started in Franklin County in 2008 and expanded to Cumberland County in 2012.  SpiriTrust Lutheran LIFE will serve Perry County participants from its Cumberland County Center in Enola.

Many of the LIFE services are provided at the LIFE Center located in Enola. In-home and specialty health care services are also provided based on the needs of the participant. LIFE offers transportation, in specially equipped vans, to and from the LIFE Center and to necessary medical appointments.

Terry Shade, President, SpiriTrust Lutheran LIFE, says, “We are excited about this opportunity to offer this unique health care program to Perry County’s older adults who want to remain independent at home.”

According to available U. S. Census data, Perry County has an adult population of approximately 7,192 at the age of 65 plus. Of these seniors, an estimated 974 would be medically eligible for LIFE services. The age eligibility of the LIFE program is currently 55 plus. The typical program participant needs help with three or more activities of daily living such as bathing, preparing meals and doing laundry.
